just bought a new computer, put it all together. my specs are:
amd Athlon 64bit 3400+ 512kb L2cache (newcastle)
MSI K8MM3-V motherboard (via 8237r/8237r plus chipset)
CRUCIAL 1GB DDR PC3200 400MHz ram
Maxtor 6L300S0 DiamondMax 10 300GB 7200RPM SATA/150 16MB Cache
start it up, works fine. start a clean install of windows xp, thinking that i wont need to install any third party sata drivers. after the initial "copying files" stage, xp restarts my computer. for a second the "starting windows xp" boot screens comes up and then a second later i get BSOD, with the error message "Stop 0x0000007B ( 0xF7C46528 , 0xC0000034 , 0x00000000 , 0x00000000 )". I then found a disk in the motherboard box for sata raid drivers, i reinstalled xp and pressed F6 to install third party drivers. i could add "VIA RAID DRIVER" and "VIA ATA/ATAPI CONTROLLER" to the list, however xp said the drivers were older than its own, although i used the ones off the floppy anyway. I STILL GET THE BSOD. tried doing the same thing again except using xp's newer drivers, still get it.
I have tried everything, checked through other peoples solutions to the same problem by googling it, however they seem to solve it by changing options in the bios for sata (they seemed to all have asus motherboards). however, in my bios i only get the option of "SATA MODE"- which is either "IDE" or "RAID". tried those both, same problem. tried swapping memory sticks, same problem.
i thought the problem might be that the only drivers on the disk were RAID and ATA, but i cant find any VIA SATA drivers anywhere for that chipset.
its driving me mad! any suggestions??!!
