I put it in my system but its not showing up in bios or xp?

Dead Drive?

I have sata on my system, my 2nd drive is sata, I have tried it w/out my drive in as well.

My Mainboard supports 4 Sata's

If you have power lead connected and SATA connector connected and no-show in BIOS that is not good. Try connecting it to a known working computer and formatting Disk Management (right -click My Computer->Manage->Disk Management and see if it appears there.

Does it make any whirring sound?

wesjr,
Have another look in the bios, Make sure the SATA controller that the drive is attached to is enabled.

Also, the drive may have a jumper on the back that may need to be repositioned or removed.

Look in control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management and see if the drive is showing.

It does not show up in disk management, in the bios, the sata connections are all set to auto and I swapped my good sata w/ this one and still on show.

No jumpers on this drive either.
