SAP vs. Oracle applications??? 1

I am a project manager in Germany and want to implement SAP or Oracle appl. for our company in Stuttgart and our subsidiary in Toledo, USA.

Can you give me an advice, example, explanation or comparison (presentation) which product my company should choose.

I don't know if I could help you or not, but me as well I'm trying to build an ERP with Oracle Applications (my senior year's project), and I'm seeking informations and I found this article for exemple:

"Both software offer the core ERP solutions. However, Oracle offers additional products for data mining, warehousing, and CASE tools.

I had the opportunity to work on both the systems for a period of time.

I found Oracle solutions are more user and programer friendly in terms of use,cost of implementation and time to go live etc..

SAP is a kind of closed circuit and
too massive to handle. Where as Oracle is quite open and offers all kinds of interfaces to many other applications and offers a very tight integration with Databases.
Well SAP comes with SQL server and in cases it go DB2 , but not Oracle.

Implementation cost is also lot cheaper and hardware investment as well.

All the points jack000 mentioned are fine i don't agree with the point he has made SAP does not come with ORACLE. It can be implemented with ORACLE as Backend, and is being used with ORACLE worldwide.

This is a big question and I'm biased as I implement Oracle ERP systems.

Anyhow here's a few areas for thought.

Do you want flexibility or are you happy to go vanilla? If you want flexibility then go Oracle if vanilla go SAP.

Also look at the complete fuction set of both offerings. Do they both satisfy your business need or does one stand out above the other.

There are many other areas that you need to look at - availabilty of trained staff - complexity of business processes - does your existing data/processes map into one better than the other - are you happy going Oracle Oracle or would you prefer SAP with some other database.

There's lots more and I sure that you will be in touch with both vendors and they will be giving their case too. In the end you have to go with what feel's right. I hope it works for you.

I have experience of both ERPs and would say that the business functionality is far more comprehensive in SAP than it is with Oracle.

The majority of transactions in vanilla Oracle are more burdensome than in SAP. SAP can be configured to support the vast majority of business processes WITHOUT having to code. Oracle is on the whole more basic and relies on the ease of customizing to support the non-vanilla business processes
