hi,
i installed sap R/3 4.6d in windows 2000 server.it works well.i changed my CPU with the same hard disk in which sap installed. i just repaired my win2k server.and i tried to logon sap but i got the error "service 'sapdp00'" unknown.server status shows stopped.which steps should i take in this case.or should i completely reinstall sap again?could any one help in this regard.
thanks

Could you explain this point :

Did you reinstall your Win2000 O.S or not ?

Another point is if you changed the CPU then the problem might come from a license issue.Your hardware key might have changed, therefore you may need to reinstall a new license key.

You can also have a look at the services file ( under windows\system32\drivers\etc ) and see if the sap services are defined.

Let me know.
Steve.

regards.

hi Steve,thanks for reply.
1.I just repaired win2000 O.P.i didn't reinstall the O.P.
i had a look at the service file and follwing sevices are defined.
**************
sapdp00 3200/tcp
sapgw00 3300/tcp
sapgw00s 4800/tcp
sapmsC11 3600/tcp
*******************
2.should i reinstal win2k O.P.if i reinstall O.P could it damage sap installation?
3.if the problem with license issue, how can i replace the license key?
thanks

Hi,

1. What do you mean by "repairing" the O.S ?
Can you post what you exactly did ?

2.Is the SAP instance started and on-line on your SAP server ?
This can be viewed using the SAP MMC.

3.Could you log on the SAP box as user <SID>adm, open a command prompt and post the result of commands :

saplicense -get

saplicense -show

4. Are you trying to logon from the SAP server itself or from a remote computer ?

If you try from a remote computer, verify that the sapdp00 service is defined also in the services file of the computer you try to log from.

Answers to your question :

- Reinstalling the OS will obviously damage the sap Installation as you will delete the SAP installation regitry keys.

- If it is a license issue you will have to ask SAP a new license key based on the new hardware key.

HTH,
regards.
Steve.
