SAN : Number of Hops

When designing a fabric and considering the topology. What is the maximum number of hops which should be allowed. Is there a rule of thumb for this.

Not really. Although you want to keep it down.

That depends on the vendor. If you use Compaqs switches, and want support from them, you are not allowed to have more than 7 hops. Im sure of that other vendors have also have design rules.
