Hi All

I have a samsung laptop that someone who has left the company has returned but has password protected the bios - great! no suprises for guessing why he's done that. The laptop model is a VM8000 Series - does anyone know how I can reset the bios?

Thanks

there is a free utility available called Killcmos which may be downloaded at
With this you create a boot floppy and run the utility from this. It will reset your BIOS to factory defaults. I have tried this on a couple of systems and it worked and gave no problems but be aware that any procedure like this must be regarded as risky. If you do decide to download and use this you may have to disable your virus scanner as this program is usually detected as a virus by most scanners as it has code similarities to a type of known virus.

the cmos battery is definately the best option but I do not know where it is on this laptop anyone any ideas?

what kind of BIOS is it -- I recently had the same problem and found that PhoenixBios are extremely hard and the a lot of Laptops are more protected. I have a book with a lot of default passwords for Bios -- if you have not gotten in, send me the bios version and i will send you the defaultd.

The BIOS password is locked in hardware, contact the Samsung helpline. You will have to quote the machine serial number and it has to be registered with them, it's a precaution against theft.
