We have just been told by are sever hosting company that we will now have several domain names using the same IP address.

"All domains within your Virtual Server are setup on the same IP address and follows http 1.1 protocols allowing the hosting of multiple domains under a single which is encouraged by RIPE."

Do RIPE encourage you to use the same IP address for several domains names?

Any ideas what the implications are with having the same IP address for several domain names?
e.g
Access Speed
Security
Search Engines

Subject: Same IP address

Hi all,

We have just got to new domains setup in on the UK server and they have given us the same IP address for both domain.
They cam e back to me with the following:-

All domains within your VS are setup on the same IP address and follows
http 1.1 protocols allowing the hosting of multiple domains under a single
which is encouraged by RIPE.

Any ideas if there are any implications with having the same IP address for several domain names?

Thanks

Phil

It is no problem. Just configure your IIS to use the same IP address for each domain. (Also your DNS) I know of no downside to this configuration as most web urls are indeed sharing IP addresses

First, you have to point all de DNS records to the same IP. Having done this, IIS 5.0 (don't know if IIS4.0 too) let you configure only the IP and port, but if you click in "advanced", you can change also the list of Domain names for which the Web Site responds to.

If you don't specify this list, a Web Site will be responding to all incoming requests to that IP and Port. Then another WebSite (on the same Server) won't be able to use this same IP and Port... ...UNLESS you specify different and independant Domain Names List for each of the Web Sites.
