The NetBIOS name of your Samba server is set in the smb.conf file. You have to change the 'netbios name= ' directive.

This error is fun because you can browse to it but when you try to connect or map to \\localhost\share it'll say invalid share (or etc); it sees localhost and then you are trying to map to yourself! :)

Hello fluid11!

Thank you for your kind reply.

Sir what do you mean directive?
THANKZ!

I probably should not have called it a directive, as thats an Apache (web server) term. Just add a line that says "netbios name=whatever" in the global config portion (top) of your smb.conf file.

Are you running a WINS server on your network? If you are, then add this line also - "wins server=1.2.3.4"

yes! you've got it mr. CrishP! my samba server is now connected to the network with the name Samba Server, but when i click the server it prompt me a username and a password i try my account in Linux to connect but does'nt work. what should i do to make user connect to my server without asking any username and password if ever it is not a good idea, or just for a guest account in order to connect to my server.

Thanks again Sir! THANKZ!
