I am having this problem and it shows up in log.smbd, can anyone tell
me what it is and how I would fix it? It occurs every time I try to
access a volume and I can't use any of the shares contained within. I
just compiled a 2.2.8a and didn't change any of my smb.conf setting.

Here is the error message as it appears in log.smbd:

[2003/04/14 13:51:37, 0] lib/util_sec.c:assert_gid(111)
Failed to set gid privileges to (0,99) now set to (99,99) uid=(0,0)
[2003/04/14 13:51:37, 0] lib/util.c:smb_panic(1094)
PANIC: failed to set gid

Are you using groups to control access? ...in your smb.conf? I've had problems with some of the user/group variables used in a config. Try looking at gr. # 99...maybe try changing Gids. Post your config...

blind leading the stumbling signing off here.....

Yes I am having the same problem. I have tried it on both RH 9 and 7.3, with samba versions 2.2.7 2.2.7a and 2.2.8a

any ideas???

Dave
