im running open server 5+ and samba 2.2.5
when i try to execute the smbclient binary i get the following error message.

"dynamic linker - ./smbclient could not open /usr/lib/libthread.so.1"

that file does not exist anywhere. i have tried installing many different versions of samab and i always get that error or a different error telling me it could not find a file that did not exist.

the problem could be that i am trying to install from a binary installer. my open server station did not have a cc or gcc compilier for some reason and i did not want to go through the trouble of installing that.

if you think that installing a compiler would help my situation please provide me with a link to download the compiler install files.

i am very new to unix. any info will help me. thank you.

The binary (for OSR 5) install of samba is on your SkunkWare CD or here:
ftp://ftp2.caldera.com/pub/skunkware/osr5/net/samba/

those are the binaries i found and tried.
each one is difference. each one installs samba in a different location.

samba should be in /usr/local/samba right?

but now its in like ocr/k/samba/2.2.6/lib/samba/bin
crazy

and if i install a different binary it will install into a different location o_O

where is it supposed to go o_O

and those binaries are the ones im having the errors with when i try to use the client. it seems like the install was not complete.

How many different install have you done without desinstalling the previous one ?
You should choose binary package that you install with custom (VOL.* files)
