Samba Client for Solaris?

Hello all!

I have been tasked with setting up a Samba client on Solaris. I've been scouring the internet and have either glossed over it by now or just can't find the info.

I've downloaded and installed the packaged binary for Solaris already. I've got SWAT up and working, but other than that, I have no clue what to do. I haven't even modified the sample smb.conf file.

I am supposed to connect to a Samba server \\server_w\volume
with a certain username & password.

Could someone please help me with this.

samba client = smbclient

if you want to connect t remote shares you can use the smbclient program that came with your samba distribution. if you want the ability to log onto the Solaris Machine using users from your NT/2K/XP/2K03 box that is a very different matter.

what sort of 'samba client' do you want?

I need to get the Solaris box to have a permanent mount to a Novell Samba Server, with the ability for the Novell box to place files on the Solaris Server. Apparently our Novell guy is telling us that their isn't a samba client for the Novell box, thus the reasoning behind making the Solaris box a client...

i'd suggest using nfs as PHV suggests ...

just share a partition (slice) on the solaris box and mount it on the novell client.

umm ... i'm assuming that your novell box does tcp/ip to communicate on the network.

Samba for Solaris doesn't come with the smbmount command, unlike version of linux (at least early versions) so it isn't possible to mount the novell shares onto the solaris box.

can anyone tell me if novell can share it's disks via nfs?
