Hi, An md110 which I maintain remotely is shortly going to be upgraded from BC9 to BC12. I have not as yet been trained on BC12. Is it possible to make an external backup remotely with NIU/NIU2.
Cheers

do you mean that,

the site is remote to where you are and you want to dial in to the remote site and do an external back-up of it ?

if so,
DUBDP;
(use which ever REL is the latest dump)

FISBI:DIR=RELx;

if not, then pls explain further

cheers

LB

Hi, No, the storage device will be at a central point, I want to access the remote site and download the backup to the central site.

Hi again Lancbomb, I was led to believe that BC12 din not have safety disks.
Cheers

Hi,

In BC12 , you have NIU2 with 128MB/256MB ATA Flash on board, Additionally you can have HDU7/1 ( ATA ) hard drive for the backup purposes.....
FISBI can't be used any more on NIU2....

Here is some details:
Safety backup
The old safety backup system is no longer valid. The IODEV’s SAFETY-HDU, SAFETY-FS and the command FISBI cannot be used with the new NIU board.
Copying the REL1 and/or the REL2 directories to an extra slave IDE/ATA HDU now makes a safety backup.
Example:
BLEQI:EQU=1-0-60-0; Blocking of dump channel on the I/O-board.
IOSII:NODE=SYSN,IODEV=SYSDISK2,BTYPE=ATA,SUBFS=SYSSUBFS31&SYSSUBFS41; Initiates a new I/O-device.
FICRI:SUBFS=SYSSUBFS31,SIZE=128;
Y;
FICRI:SUBFS=SYSSUBFS41,SIZE=128;
Y; Creates two 128 MB subfilesystems.
FIMOI:SUBFS=SYSSUBFS31,PATH=/SYSN/USR3;
FIMOI:SUBFS=SYSSUBFS41,PATH=/SYSN/USR4; Mount the new subfile systems.
FIDII:pATH=/SYSN/USR3/SES;
FIDII:pATH=/SYSN/USR3/SES/DR; Create USR3 directories
FIDII:pATH=/SYSN/USR4/SES;
FIDII:pATH=/SYSN/USR4/SES/DR; Create USR4 directories
FICPI:SPATH=/SYSN/USR1/SES/DR,PATH=/SYSN/USR3/SES/DR,COOP=DIR;
FICPI:SPATH=/SYSN/USR2/SES/DR,PATH=/SYSN/USR4/SES/DR,COOP=DIR; Copy REL1 to USR3 and

REL2 to USR4
BLEQE:EQU=1-0-60-0; Deblocking of the dump channel.

snakeblitsen,

If you just need to upload backup from MD remotely, you can do it easily via FTP.
NIU/NIU2 has IP port, IP address and build in FTP server.

Theoretically you can upload MD backup via dial-up modem using X-modem protocol.
The only problem - this is rather boring exercise :)
1 LIM system REL in bc11/12 is ~15 Meg of data.

Hi Snakebiltsen,

FTP using MD Disktool (Part of the SAM Toolbox) is the best way to do this IMHO. You can schedule this to run automatically every day etc.

Hi,

I used FTP (MD Disk Tool) and copied the REL to PC using a network connection to the NIU (via Telnet). and the following month i can't connect though i have the same settings and i can ping IP address. What can be wrong?

Hi

Fisbi can be used on BC12 NIU2.
It has been tested on 28 Lims using HDU7/1 with 2x190mb partitions REL1 and REL2 and safety disk HDU7/1 with 190mb partition.
The safety disk reloads the system.
Flash ram was not used as its capacity is to small.
