Safe Mode Stop Error

Hi,

I'm stuck. My homepage changed so I ran Norton. Came up with 7

adware.iefeats files which I can't delete. Also Search Extender and

Shopping wizard have appeared in my add/remove programs list. They

cannot be deleted. I had this before and booted in safemode then

deleted them which sorted it. This time however when I try to boot in

safe mode I get the blue screen of death. Its a stop error with the

message:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

No particular files are mentioned as causing problems

What does it mean? Not much info on the net. Most of it refers to other

people having this problem when they are in the middle of playing

online games, applications etc. My PC works fine normally. Its only

when I reboot in safe mode like I said.

I also ran ad-aware 6.0 which came up with 5 bugs. All tracking

cookies. Deleted them no problem. Spybot search and destroy found 25

problems and fixed all but 1. An activity log regarding the file

C:/winnt/schedlgu.txt

Ran Norton again and same 7 files came up.

Why can't I boot in safe mode?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have seen other posts about flashing the BIOS or removing failed RAM. Sounds like possible solutions. Have you recently reinstalled SP4?

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

Thanks bcastner. I'm in work now so I'll have a good read of the faq when I get home to my PC and follow it through.

This link talks about SP4 causing errors with the task scheduler. You may want to look into this.
