The machine is an IBM Netvista running XP Home, about 4 years old. Up until a week ago it was running fine.
Now, it'll only boot OK into Safe Mode. In regular mode it freezes right after the splash screen shows. The blue color in the progress bar begins to scroll then it locks up.
I've virus-checked the drive in another machine and it's clean. I've run the Windows CD in Repair mode with the command 'chkdsk /r' without any change. I've run Spinrite on the drive and the drive is error free. I've run Bootlogging then checked Event Viewer in Safe Mode to see what occurred. All I can tell is that it stops loading from the point when it tries to run ACPI. After that nothing loads.
Advice would be appreciated
