We are having mulitple systems displaying modem alarms in S8400 and S8500 systems. They seem to pop up after the system has been dialed into and you logoff. The error reads
1 _WD 18 WRN Y Fri Nov 30 01:06:55 EDT 2007 Application ModemMtty restarted. Retry

It will let you clear the alarm but comes back after you dial in again seemingly every time. They are all using the standard USB Multitech Modem. Anyone have any advice?

This is a "warning" alarm ("WRN"). Almost all warning warning alarms are of no real consequence. Warnings are never called into Denver. I don't know this alarm, but I'd guess that a getty-like process that is started when you logoff dies, and then has to be restarted. But apparently it then runs correctly. As long as I could login with no problems, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah so far it has had no real affect. The only problem is I have a couple of customers that monitor their swith alarms/warnings and of course I get a call everytime asking what is going on.........I will keep researching and post any findings......thanks

Clearing alarms only removes the alarm notifications from the active alarm list. It does not remove the conditions that caused the alarms. I have had this same problem with the USB modem. I monitor it very closly and disconnect the modem to reset it, a couple weeks later it comes back. I wish I could give you something better.

Check your firmware of your SAMP card in the S8500 and S8400 server. If you are a S8500b and you are running CM 3.1.4 or higher you will need to upgrade your firmware on the SAMP card.

Its just a watchdog warning and like previous poster has stated its normally caused by the firmware on your samp card
