What additional equipment do I need to relocate an 8700 approx 1mile away from the original site?

if I install another cajun linked by fibre to the original cajun will this suffice for my duplication link and PN connectivity?

can't find any information in the books

thanks in advance

Are we talking separation of the 2 servers? I have mine separated and can help with that.

We use single mode fiber for the primary, and multimode for the duplication link. We just have the Cat5 going into a media converter on both ends of the fiber. We have never had any issues. I don't know if a cajun can be used in the series, as I believe it needs to be a dark line, directly connected.

The cajun will work for the PN, though. We have 2 PN on our campus, with the 2 cajuns connected by single mode fiber. Sorry for so many posts, should have put all in one.

thanks for the replies

yes, i'm looking at moving the standby server to a different building

cat5-fibre-cat5 probably sounds to be the easiest option

do you have any cabinets in your other location? would you link these by fibre converter also?

Here's what we have:

Location 1:
S8700
Cabinet 1
Cajun

Location 2:
S8700
Cabinet 2
Cajun

8700's directly connected thur single mode fiber
Dup link thru multimode fiber

Cajuns directly connected thru single mode fiber

Cabinets plugged into Cajuns in both locations

What happens if the link goes down ? Do Both servers go into active ? IF so, what happens if the link comes back up ?

Honestly, I haven't had to cross that bridge yet.

thanks for all your assistance you have it setup pretty much like I expected

the question regarding what happens when the link goes down is a good one

If the arbitration link goes down the IPSI's will register to the servers they are connected to. Don't work too well.

with regards to the fiber links do i need single mode or multi mode links?

Both.
The direct fiber connection between the two must be single mode. The Cat5 connection can be multimode.

Two ways to connect the fibers to the cajuns. Either use trancievers or X330 fiber module for Cajun.
