Anybody doing this?
I'm attempting to establish the PPP session, I've followed the docs and when I get to the terminal screen I get garbage and no login prompt.
Any thoughts on what might be missing?
I usually get lots of garbage and then after a few seconds, I'll get a login prompt. Sometimes I even get garbage in the login prompt, but usually if I just ignore it and type in my login and password, it will still accept it.
If it's still not working, try making sure that on your modem configuration in the dial up connection, the following are NOT turned on...
Turn off hardware compression and error correction on your dialup settings. I've had this same problem on my dell c640 laptop with a pctel modem.. turning off these settings let me connect.
another thing, you should flash the software on the modems, that should/will fix it as well.
I had the same problem with my Dell Latitude D600 modem, turned off Hardware flow control & modem error control & modem compression and wait a few seconds for the garbage to clear the screen then you can login without any problems.
Did updates on your modem prevent you from having to do this?
I had the same issue. On the dial-up networking part, don't enter your username and password. Leave them blank. Wait for the terminal login. Enter your username and password there. Once I did that... worked everytime. Then I use ASA to connect via IP.
Are you aware that we need to use Multitech modem for S8700?
During the initial setup in Configure System, you have to enable the modem international string. Then use a dial up. The properties at the dial up should have client for Microsoft Networks, TCPIP, etc. Make sure you enable show terminal window so you can manually login using
That is correct shady, all of the linux based processors connect to an USB Multitech modem. In addition like you said you have to enable to modem, in the Maintenance Web Site of the S8700, then in Communications Manager you have to create a new login with Login type 'Customer' and Service Level 'Remote', this is the userid and password used when connecting via the modem to the S8x00 server.
