I have S8500 PBX (R3.0) I plan to change the dial-plan from 5 to 7-digits. Is there a checklist that can be used to ensure that all of the key places are updated? Does anyone have any suggestions? All of the work will be done manually by the employee's so we want to ensure that we are on the proper track.

Hire a BP to do this for you. There is a tool called provision that makes this process really simple. They will take your translations out, change them to 7 digits, then push them back to your S8500. This will save your tons of work. Without provision this process is very difficult.

In today's economy we have to utilize our own resources.

12345 change to 1234567

Code:
change extension-station 12363 Page 1 of 1

                              CHANGE STATION EXTENSION

Station Name: Cratner, Steve Port: 01B0617

                     FROM EXTENSION TO EXTENSION
                     -------------- ------------
                            Station: 12345 1234567
                       Message Lamp: 12345 1234567
             Emergency Location Ext: 12345 1234567

Then

Command: remove station 12345

I have to agree w/using a BP. We went from 4 to 6 digits in 14 locations (including international) and all voicemail systems over a 4 week period. Provision made a world of difference and we still had a lot of work to do up front and post-change. Could not imagine having to do it w/out that product.

Thank you! Prior to doing the above with the stations I need to update the dial plan pages first correct? The above example is for extensions only. Does this automatically update the user's phone stations?

Yes, dialplan would have to allow the new 7 digit strings for ext.

Yes, it changes the old extension to the new extension.
Basically what it is doing is using the UID in software and disassociating the 5 digit extension and associating the new 7 digit extension with the UID.

Try one.

you could change 12345 to 54321
display station 54321 and it will be whatever 12345 was.

I can help you with this if you would like. There are so many area's to address when you do a dial plan change.

I changed from 4 to 5 a while back and looked into doing it ourself. Their was a lot more involved than I ever considered. We ended up using our BP to do it and it ended up going over very clean.

Unless someone like ProjectManager09 has Provision to be able to help you do it, i would not even consider it. If you are moving from 5 to 7 digits, i expect we are talking about moving a lot of extensions. Making a patch using provision and loading it and being done worked really well.

Also think about every coverage path, station, VDN ,vector, hunt group, Voice messaging system, the list goes on and on..

Just my 2 cents worth after being there...

Well said Mikey. I've been though this as well and the cost per site was so cheap that I didn't even consider doing it myself.

For bulk changes on changing the extensions. Use the Avaya Site Administrator Import Data. Look for the CHANGE EXTENSION OPERATION. You can change everything in just a short period of time.

THANK YOU everyone for all of the information. One thing I know how to do well is take the advice of my experienced peers. I decided to leave the system "as is" for now and update dialplan to reflect the needed changes. This will get us through the next several weeks until we get a quote for the BP provisioning tool. Thx.
