Hi all,

I am looking for any documentation/help on doing a new install of either the CM6.3.7, or 6.4 on the S8300E. I can't seem to find any decent instructions or guides on how to actually do it. I have installed CM 6.3 System platform and Templates on S8300D's without issue, but the same setup will not work on the S8300E.

I was able to set up the SDM Client on my laptop, and began the installation of the AVP 7.0 software, but due to resource issues I couldn't install the full setup. So I attempted to do an install of the 6.3.7 software, via putty and the service port. I was able to get the installation to complete, but when I tried to access the board via the network IP I had assigned, it wouldn't even ping, and I was also locked out of the Services port as well.

I'm not exactly up to speed on the S8300E and can't believe that Avaya doesn't have some literature out there for this newest, latest and greatest product. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Check compatibility - there are some basic combos presented here which don't exist/won't work.

AVP = Aura 7.x products (not CM 6.3)
VSP = Aura 6.3.x products

Hey randycarroll I should have been clearer, I labelled it CM in the post, but I actually used the Aura vsp-6.3.7.0.05001.iso, downloaded from Avaya.

I know there are documented issues when upgrading to that 6.3.7 SP release, because I had them. But that was when upgrading to it and not from a fresh install. Perhaps try a different version of system platform.

Ok, so I tried going back to Aura 7.0 and it completes the AVP install from the DVD. I then wait for the card to reboot, and when it's available I connect using the SDM Client.

I work my way through configuring the location, Host, FQDN, etc...It's when I get to the deployment stage, that I run into my problem. I choose the OVA file and go to set the Flexi Footprint. Regardless of which option I try, it always comes back with a resources issue. Even when I choose the smallest possible configuration, it gives me an error on the CPU resources, which of course causes the deployment to fail.

I don't have an option to change the CPU resources because that is preset by the factory when it is assembled. What am I doing wrong that the card that's supposed to be designed for this release of software, won't actually take the software?

After loading AVP via CD+USBstick, did you then install Utility Server with SDM?

Also be sure you've logged into the AVP host and accepted the EULA which also installs the license.

Coming back for another look...

dleuen, yes I did make sure to accept that

randycarroll, I had not loaded the Utility server up to that point. However I did get the file and attempted to load it via the SDM Client program. It would let me do everything, including choosing a Flexi Footpath, but then it would get to the final stage of the install and get an error, and it didn't complete. And I would also lose access to the card, and have to start over again from the beginning.

This is my first time working with the S8300E, I have performed installs on numerous S8300B, C & D without issue. But how/why is it that Avaya has released a product, yet not given any specific set up instructions?!? Does it work when using the SDM client, or should I be using the VMware once the virtual platform is installed?

I have contacted a few different outlets for assistance, including Avaya themselves, and yet I'm getting nowhere. If someone has the step by step setup, or can tell me what guides to use it would be beyond appreciated.

Your S8300E should behave exactly like an S8300D so any instructions you have for the D applies to the E. As mentioned above, AVP and System Platform are completely separate. You either want Aura 6.x in which case you want System Platform, or you want Aura 7.x in which case you need to load AVP onto your S8300E. Sounds like you are going with 7.x so let's stick with that. You've already installed AVP and accepted the EULA so the next step is to install Utility Services OVA using SDM Client. I wonder if that is the step you are missing? Once Utility Services is up and running then you can install CM or Session Manager or what ever you intend to install there. Again those should be installed with SDM client and any instructions for S8300D would be the same for S8300E. If none of that is working then maybe we need more details like what version of AVP, US, CM. Also maybe connect to the S8300E with vSphere client and let us know what the CPU and Memory look like to be sure there isn't some sort of hardware issue.

Follow up post...

So after numerous failures, frustrations and f'bombs trying to install the Aura 7.x platform, I retreated back to the Aura 6.4 s/w. After a few hick-ups I was able to get the s/w to install as if I were working on the S8300D, as stated by dleuen...Once I had it installed, everything just ticked into place, both the platform and the templates.

I still can't understand why I wasn't able to install the 7.x platform using the USB/DVD along with the SDM client, but for now I will put that whole setup on the shelf, and work with what works. Perhaps in the future, either Avaya, or some kindhearted individual will post complete step by step instructions for the Aura 7.x installation. Until then, thanks for the input!
