Does anyone know how to tell remotely if you are an S8300 or an S8300B with the newer CM2.1? Thanks for your help.

when you mean remotely, do you mean telnet, http, dial-up or something else?

Hi, thanks for responding. No, through IP.

oh, wait. I didn't comprehend your total question.

You have to have an S8300B for CM 2.0

Whats the diff between S8300 and S8300B?

so if you do an upgrade to CM2.0 from CM1, you have to buy a new processor??

thats pretty much BS in my book..

I've been asked to determine is the switch is 8300 or 8300B bases on a PCN that Avaya has out but I'm not sure how to see what the memory is in order to determine which firmware it has. Avaya says that CM 2.1 can only run on the S8300B. And, they say that the 8300B has double the memory of the 8300. I'm not sure, just know that's what they are saying.

Hello,

New shippments with ACM2.0 are with S8300B.

However you can load ACM2.0 to S8300 if you upgrade it from R11.

ACM3.0 will not work on a S8300, it will require S8300B.

Try loging in to the G700 MGP or G350 and type "show mg list".

This shows all the media modules and you should be able to see the version of the S8300 server.

Hi,

I am having a problem with an 8300 system, I have a 3x G700 Media Gateway stack, connected up using the octaplane stacking cables and the redundancy cable. I have the ICC in media gateway 001 and the lsp in media gateway 003.

For some reason the media gateways keep switching over to the lsp, even when the icc is fully operational with no errors or alarms, I have also checked and when the media gateways resister with the lsp all the processes on the icc are up.

Also when the Media gateways are registered on the lsp I am able to ping from the mgp of the media gateways to the ICC.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Dave

ps I have already checked the software / firmware versions, they are all at the latest versions.

I am running CM 2.0.1 and have applied the latest patch.

Thanks again

sorry peeps..

The S8300B Media Server is functionally equivalent to previous S8300 servers, except it has double the memory (512 MB) of earlier S8300 servers. The S8300B is labeled “S8300B” on the faceplate and the color of the faceplate is gray. To distinguish a S8300B server from an older S8300 server remotely, a “free –b” command can be issued from the bash to determine the total memory available on the server. The S8300B server will show total memory available as “528072704”.

So if you have a S8300 and need to upgrade to CM 2.x or higher, will they just give you a memory upgrade (cost of under 100 bucks) compared to totally replacing the processor?? (cost of a few thousand bucks)

Here you can use this

1.- From the Linux level
Login to the s8300
From the Linux CLi run the free -b command and check the total memory. An s8300A has 256MB of RAM and an s8300B has 512MB. So using the example below we can see that was an s8300A since its memory was 263340032
init@Node9_s8300> free -b
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 263340032 260288512 3051520 668647424 9117696 32669696
-/+ buffers/cache: 218501120 44838912
Swap: 542859264 252227584 290631680

2.- From the MGP level
Login to the G700's MGP
Run the command show mg list and check the SUFFIX for the s8300 server in V1. The example below show an s8300A

MG_Node9-001-2(super)# sho mg lis
SLOT TYPE CODE SUFFIX HW VINTAGE FW VINTAGE VOIP FW
---- ------ ----- ------ ---------- ----------- -------
v0 G700 DAF1 A 00 22.15.0(A) 42
v1 S8300 A 0 5 N/A
v2 DCP MM712 A 3 5 N/A
v3 ANA MM711 A 4 16 N/A
v4 DS1 MM710 A 4 8 N/A

Switchman I would get rid of the 2.0.1 load of software and go to 2.1 I think 2.0.1 had a lot of bugs in it and it wasn't around for that long

Thanks, Hassro. I also figured out that if you do a list config all, it will tell you if it's 8300B or just 8300. Thanks again.

Sorry, not list config all but list config media-gateway.

Hi,
I have some ambiguous situation with determination what S8300 I have.
The "B" on the faceplate of S8300 and command "free -b" from the Linux CLI indicates version B.

dadmin@LSP1> free -b
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 528072704 496345088 31727616 0 85508096 111808512
-/+ buffers/cache: 299028480 229044224
Swap: 0 0 0

But, the commands from the MGP level (G350) and "list conf media .." from SAT shows version A:

G350-001(super)# show mg list
SLOT TYPE CODE SUFFIX HW VINTAGE FW VINTAGE
---- ------ ---------- ------ ---------- -----------
v0 G350 PC1053 B 0 21.20.1(B)
v1 ICC S8300 A 0 1

list configuration media-gateway 1

001V1 ICC MM S8300 HW00 FW001

Which parameter is relevant?
