S8300 MultiTech modem

Modem is connected to S8300 and modem does answer when called, but can not establish dialup connection. Multitech modem never sounds like it is negotiating.
 
be sure to go into maintenance web interface and enable the modem for umlimited calls.
 
If this is an older modem and the S8300 is a newer software version it could be that the modem's firmware will need to be updated.

do you get a login: prompt?

what login are you using?

what happens when you try logging in?

can you paste login: prompt and error here?

Never get a to a login prompt. When calling, the modem answers and squeals, but never negotiates and connects.

There may be a patch...

Can you login to this s8300 from the network or another server? Has the s8300 server been rebooted?

Here are a couple linux commands to try.
modem status: modserv -v
modem status: modserv -restore
modem status: modserv -t reset_usb
modem status: modserv --help
turns on modem to answer: modserv -respawn
