I'm an Access/VB developer and purchased some data for personal use. The data came in FM5 runtime database format (USR) for Windows. The problem is that the querying/searching program that came with the data is terrible. I know next to nothing about FM so this may be dumb but ...

If I install the FM6 Trial version, will I be able to read the USR files and export them to some type of common file (asc, csv, etc.), so I might be able to use them with the querying tools I'm familiar with?

Thanks,
Brooks

Runtime is runtime.

You don't need FM to run/use the application.
And there it stops. Depend of how the developer 'made' the application.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't follow you, remember I don't know FM.

By the size of the USR its obvious that it contains the mass of data. Can't the full/designer version of FM open the USR into a "designer" mode where the raw data can be viewed, exported, etc.?

start the file, and if you see File, Export records, then you can do it. If the programmer decided in his wisdom to exclude you from exporting, then you have to get hold of that programmer before you can get your data! Steve Butterworth
