Is it possible for vendor to mask or change the file system so that the end user cannot upgrade the os or applications on their own?
I have been trying to upgrade from SCO 5.0.5 Enterprise to 5.0.6 Enterprise but during the initial setup it gives me a message box that says "No product to upgrade" and then gives me a list of OSR5 products from 5.0.0 to 5.0.5. and offers to do a fresh install.
I think it sees the unix partition but does not see what is already installed.
Is this common or not possible?

No message saying something like:
Warning, no root disk controller ?
You may have to use a BTLD floppy for your SCSI adapter.

Hope This Help, PH.

No, but I did get that message when I first tried to run the upgrade. I unmirrored the vdisks then it started giving me this message.
I have to use defbootstr Sdsk=alad(0,0,0,0) Srom=wd(0,0,0,0) to get it to find the active unix partition.

This is the message that I get after choosing
the upgrade option:

There is no product to upgrade on your system.
To do an automatic upgrade, you must have one of the
following products on your system:

SCO:eek:dtes::5.0.0 SCO:eek:dtps ::5.0.0
SCO: unix ::5.0.0 SCO:unixos::5.0.0
SCO:eek:dtes::5.0.2 SCO:eek:dtps ::5.0.2
SCO: unix ::5.0.2 SCO:unixos::5.0.2
SCO:eek:dtes::5.0.4 SCO:eek:dtps ::5.0.4
SCO: unix ::5.0.4 SCO:unixos::5.0.4
SCO:eek:dtes::5.0.5 SCO:eek:dtps ::5.0.5
SCO: unix ::5.0.5 SCO:unixos::5.0.5

# uname -X

System = SCO_SV
Node = e918*****
Release = 3.2v5.0.5
KernelID=98/07/02
Machine =PentII(D)
Bustype = ISA
Serial = **********
Users = 250-user
OEM# = 0
Origin# = 1
NumCPU = 2

It has me baffled!

I just noticed that my software manager lists my OS as just "SCO Openserver Software (5.0.5m)"
Should that read "SCO Openserver Enterprise System (5.0.5,)" ?

# uname -X

System = SCO_SV
Node = e918*****
Release = 3.2v5.0.5
KernelID=98/07/02
Machine =PentII(D)
Bustype = ISA
Serial = **********
Users = 250-user
OEM# = 0
Origin# = 1
NumCPU = 2

What version do I have?

Could have sworn I replied to this before.....
You most likely have enterprise (250 users) if you have tcp/ip networking available. swconfig will confirm this.
I am thinking the problem may be smp (NumCPU = 2).

Try uninstalling smp then try the upgrade, then reinstall smp, then apply all the patches for 5.0.6

Hi stan,
Thanks for the reply. I ran swconfig and TCP/IP was installed. The strange thing is that it lists SCO Openserver Software as being partially installed and SCO UNIX System V Operating System as installed. How could that be?

Partial install just means that not all the components were selected (i.e. no X windows or no Developement system), to be installed initially. nothing to worry about.

I uninstalled all the SMP files and patches but still have the same message. Is it possible that what is installed is a custom version of OSr5 not a full version of Enterprise but Host with TCP/IP?
