Running Total on a grouped dataset

Hello,

I require a running total of a calculated field, however I have an issue because I need to display the data grouped by some other field. This means that the running total function 'sees' each iteration of the dataset as the initial row and so there is never a running total, just a repeat of the value for that particular row.

After much searching and only finding information that says I should use framework manager to set up the calculation, however this is not an option since it's a non-trivial calculation. I'm sure there must be a workaround for this out there somewhere. Any ideas anyone?

Many thanks,
Mike

I doubt that FM will solve this. Running aggregates are dealt with by the C8 server. Run a trace on the database when you run a report that uses a running aggregate and you will find that the database ignores the part of the running calc. Grouping the data in the report will involve a sort on the rows and the dataset is just sorted one way. The running -total should be possible with grouped data if the reset is in range of a single grouped value.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, however I am still unfortunately having trouble with this.

If I print out the whole of my list, the running-total is fine and the figures are correct. However I need to use a Master Detail Relationship to print only the 'next' row of the list I am interested in (the one that is displayed because of the grouping). This causes the running-total to reset.

Any thoughts?
