In the Details of a report, How can I have Item No.'s count for each record in a continuous form?

I have Qty, Description, and Unit Price. I want an Item No. for each record, 1, 2, 3, and so on. I assume this would be an unbound text box but I don't know how to get a running count. I know how to get a total count. But that does me no good. Also, should this be in the subform as part of the continuous form or in the main form?

Thanks. Sean.

You can use running sum to do it. Check the help and search for "running sum".

Put an unbound text box in your detail line section (you can either just delete the label box or use it with a period in it if you want a period after your numbers). In the properties for the text box, under the "Data" tab select Running Sum - "Over All" if you want all detail lines in the report numbered. Use "Over Group" if you just want the group items numbered and place the text box next to the group item. Then enter =1 in the Control Source box.
