I have a building located 3 blocks away that has only a few cable pairs left for our definity phone system. I do have a couple strands of fiber open for my use. Does anyone know of a easy way to convert fiber into multiple copper lines? We are not using VOIP. I am not sure the best way to attack this prob. Not sure if there is a solution that would be less expensive than installing a new cable under parking lots?

Any info is greatly appreciated

I don't know of an easy way to convert the fiber to copper cheaply. There are quite a few factors here, but if you are using analog ports from the definity, you could bank a fiber pair into a T1 and get 24 analog lines over there. Doing this requires somewhat expensive equipment on each end.

The clean solution is to put a remote cabinet at the other building, hook it to the definity with a pair of fiber, and then you can add cards to the remote cabinet as needed to serve the other building.

Good Luck!
It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

no matter what you do I believe the only way to do it is useing VOIP and spending lots of $$$

Oh by the way, i'm new to this site and can see that Daron, you are doing a GREAT job giving people good advise. good to see that.

Or if the site is big enough to support an EPN. This way distance or cable pairs are no longer an issue. The EPN is easy to install. Plus know you don't have to worry about adding more cabling.

The best thing is you already have fiber in place.

The EPN is the best solution for future growth in my opinion if you are looking at a potential of 100+ telephones.
The cost is also very low compared to other options if shopping the secondary market.

Are you going to use the link for data or phone?
If for data you can put a transciever fiber to ethernet on each end and then plug the ethernet into a switch at both ends. Transcivers I purchased were Dlink for about 300.00 per.
