For Programming i need to have the the same Networkenvironment as a friend of mine has.
But I only have one computer. Now I have the problem that it is impossible to map a networkdrive on this computer.
Yesterday i played with the TCP/IP, DefaultGateway and DNS settings, an then it worked. The computer was Server and client at the same time. After that i startet Win98 from another harddisk, and after that, it again didn't work. It was impossible for me to find the right setting again. In my HOSTS file, there is the line '127.0.0.1 localhost', and the ip-adress is 192.168.114.254, the default gw is 192.168.114.255, The Server has both IP-Adresses.
But it still does not work. For Example, it is impossible to see the needed SQL-Database with the SQL Enterprise Manager.

So how can I configure the computer to work as server and client.

I use VMware to simulate more then one computer on the same machine. But you have to have a switch or a hub to communicate with the other "virtual" machines.

Thank you, but i found the best solution on my own the same night.
There is a network adapter called 'Loopback' on the NT-CD, which simulates it.
Got it from the Microsoft Knowledgebase 'MS SQL'.
You even don't need a real Network-Card or a switch/hub.
