My athlon 2600 is running at 49c idle and 52c active. Now my v.core is way low at 1.60 and I'm running a thermaltake volcano 7 heatsink. The reason why I'm questioning this is I ran the same heatsink on my overclocked 1700+ and it ran at 38c max! Is it just the chip or is my heatsink not enough?

TheGoatMan,
38C sounds low for an overclocked XP1700+ but 49/52C sounds about what I would expect to see from an XP2.6+
Onboard senses can vary quite dramatically, bios upgrades can also have quite a significant impact on displayed temps, I've seen 10C drops with the Abit NF7S after a bios flash.
Point is these onboard monitors are not very accurate so don't take them too seriously, they are nothing more than a rough guide at times.
I'm guessing the later 49/52C figure is nearer the make than your older readings.

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

I had brand new bios on both systems and that was the PC health status temps in the bios. Just anything over 50c bugs me.

What is your case temp? If you box is hot, your CPU is going to be also, regardless what HSF your running.

System temp stays low at around 38c-41c. I leave the side cover off. I don't really need it on anyways. Anyways my girlfriend agreed to getting me a thermaltake aquariusII cooling system for christmas. So we'll see.

I agree with Martin regarding the change that an update can do. I installed a Health utility on a computer several years ago for a friend and it suddenly started screaming undervolts. I got the new BIOS from the website and everything then became fine.

And no before you think the software was for the *right* mobo! :) This is what I thought the problem was at first!

I keep it outside sometimes. My system drops to 9c. And my cpu down to 25c. Not kidding.
