I am looking for advice on running this version on Windows XP

Rather than trying to repeat much of what others have said before, you might want to look at the following threads:

thread182-238213

thread182-229574

thread182-223509

thread182-227881

thread182-197069

thread182-220714

They probably don't cover ALL possible issues, but they hit on many of them.

Good Luck,

Increment the Files setting in your CONFIG.NT file. If you make the change to the one in the Windows\System32\ directory it will affect all programs using this file (mostly DOS and Win3.x apps). Otherwise on the Program tab of the Properties window for the .LNK, click on the Advanced button and specify "unique" Autoexec.NT and Config.nt files just for this application.

First, I'd suggest that you look at:
thread182-276320

When you login as Guest and read the article it will let you know about XP's Compatibility Wizard. You might want to consider using it.

Next, within the CONFIG.NT file which is in your
C:\%System Root%\System32
sub-directory you should have defined your FILES= nnnn
You might want to ensure that this is set to something like
FILES=40 or some people recommend FILES=80. You can play around with this number.

Good Luck,
