I have a BO Macro which exports a report to an excel format and gives it a name from an input box, however, I need to run the Macro whilst in several different reports.

For my first report (report 1) i have added the VBA to the document and inserted the macro into the macro's toolbar so i can run it with a button click.

When i open report 2 - for which i haven't added any code - the run macro button is still highlighte but it does not do anything.

Is there a common area in which i can store a macro enabling it to be run from any document - like excel and the personal macro workbook?

try this

Under macro-macros option

set macrosin to All opendocuments.

You could save your macro(s) as an Add-In (.rea). It will then be available every time you run BO.

How do i go about saving macros as an add-in? This sounds ideally suited for my purposes

First a macro as it is cannot be converted to an add in. first the code should be made generalized by usung the current document object.
Once done then it is as simple as performing a Save As option and selecting Addins from the drop down list.

I've seen that the add-in can also be executed on the BCA. It has to be installed.

How can I instal a .REA on BCA for this purpose ?
