I am trying to run an automated system shutdown and start-up script from an ARCserve. Using the PRE and POST options, unfortunately the batch file do not seem to run. I am running 6.61 AE. Dose anyone have any ideas.

What OS are you using, and what does your PRE and POST jobs contain? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

The OS is NT 4 SP4; the batch jobs are to shutdown an SAP DB system with 4 Apps servers and bring them back on line when the backup is finished

Are your batch files in a recognized path?

We use Pre and Post batch files all the time. The only problem we ever encountered was pathing. Glenn A

Yes, the Batch files have the correct path defined, but still will not run.

Do the batch files run from the DOS prompt? Glenn A

I have to put all my bat files under c:\winnt before they will work. In some cases, you have to replace the netsvc.exe with a newer one.

Try adding a path command in autoexec.nt
path=c:\winnt

OR in the pre and post line put

c:\winnt\batch.bat

It should be pathed automatically, but does not seem to be.
Other than that, I just do not know Glenn A

I use Arserve 7 for Netware and I discovered that Pre and Post only work when addressing the server that Arcserve runs on unless you put Agents on the other servers that you need to stop & start services on.

I had to put an NW Arcserve Agent on my mailserver (a separate box) in order to use Pre and Post to stop the mail agents on that server before the backup job and start the mail agents after the backup.

I'm not sure about ArcServe for NT 4. Could the rules be the same? Are you trying to address other servers with the Pre / Post commands?
