truyt,

Here's a couple Knowledge Base articles that may apply:

In Internet Explorer, go to Help>Online Support, choose the Microsoft Knowledge Base, then check the box that says specify an article ID number, then paste the article numbers below into the search box.

Err Msg: Rundll32 Has Performed an Illegal Operation...
Article ID: Q182293

Invalid Page Fault When Opening Control Panel or Control Panel Tools
Article ID: Q237826

thanks but they dont have the solution

If you're running Win98, go to Start>Run, and type sfc. Choose extract one file from the installation disk and follow the prompts.

If you're running Win95, manually extract the file. Where is it? Don't know.

did that
nothing happened
its showing the same message
thanx

What happens if you type something like this in the Run box:

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl,,1

reghakr

rundll32 has performed an illlegal operation and will be shut down

If you're running win98 and it's been less than 5 days:

Try hitting F8 on startup, choose command prompt only. At the c: prompt, type:
cd\windows\command
then type:
scanreg /restore
and choose a date prior to the problem.

see if it works this way:

Control.exe appwiz.cpl

reghakr

Or this way:

rundll.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl,,1

That will identify rundll32.exe as the culprit if these last two execute correctly.

Hello, truyt.

I would do a thorough virus scan. It is symptomatic.

See if you have a 'run32.exe' file in your system, if you do maybe you have SubSeven in your Machine. -------------------------

thanx everyone
i just replaced it by downloading a new one seems to work fine now :)

Check for the sircam32 virus. It renames the rundll.exe file and replaces it. if you have the virus it will keep doing this until you delete it. Check your autoexec and startup files. Check to see if sircam32.exe is set to start when your autoexec and startup begins. I just went through the same thing but on a much bigger scale.
