I receive run time error 20515 : "A memo field cannot be used in a formula" after changing the field data type in Access 2000 database from text to memo. Now, when changing back to text data type in Access, Crystal Reports (version 4.6 delivered with VB 6.0)does not recognize the change - still receiving the same error message. How could I solve this problem?

Have you verify the database after your change?

Database / verify database (in CR 8.5, anyway)

Sometime it needs that to refresh. It will say : the database "ado" (or else) have changed, do you want to fix the report...

It's what i need to do in CR 8.5

Thank you for your reply, melginger. The problem was that the maximum length of a text string in CR seems to be 127. In Access 2000 the limit is 255. So, if I have the length of a text field e.g. 250 in Access, CR thinks it is a memo field.

However, I can cheat CR by not allowing it to verify the database after increasing the size of the text field in Access. Now I can use 255 characters and yet use this field in formula:)
