Run Report on Email Distribution List

Hi there - I was wondering if there's a way for me to run a report of all of my distribution list that had no activity for the past xx amount of days?

The goal is to search for DLs that are no longer being utilized and completely remove its entirety.

Please kindly advise.

I'm not aware of one. Even if you did, someone would come to you 6 months later saying "what happened to the xyz list"?

But what I do is record the user who requested the list to be created in the Notes field for the list. Then I can go back and ask that person if I they still use/need the list.

Well that would've been nice if these DLs I created myself so I can recall with owners, however these are very old way before my tenure time...

Some of which dated back year 2006 but believe it or not found some of them are still being used but not all.

So I'm trying to find a way to speed up the process by running a report based on DLs that hasnt been used for xx amount of days.

This way I can prove to the owner/members that hey you havent been using this DL for a xx period of time, can I delete?

I heard there's an option in Exchange 2007/2010 where you can find out how often they have been used within the history depth of your message tracking logs (usually 30 days) using get-messagetrackinglog from the EMS.

But not sure if this applies in Exch 2003?

For EX2003 you'd need a tool like Quest MessageStats or Promodag to do it easily.
Glen Scales has written a lot of good scripts for but I don't think he has ever covered this.

If memory serves Promodag also do a free tool to import message tracking logs into an Access database which you you could then search on. That might work if logs aren't over 2GB.
