Run Excel from Crystal Report

I have a problem when I run Crystal report from an excel file where the field from excel would become blank if the value of the field is not at the top. For example, an excel would contain 20,000 records and if the first value of the excel field is at the bottom, then when crystal report runs, it will treat this field as blank, unless i sort the field value to be at the top to be recognized. How can I get around this?

I had a similar problem where I had a column with numbers and text which all needed to be strings for crystal. I needed to change the format in the whole column to the same thing for it to work. I don't know if changing a blank cell's format would work but if not, I think there has to be some sort of text in each cell in excel for it to work in crystal. You may have to manually put in "dummy data". Maybe a 0 or a space or something that you would know isn't true data.
 
Yeah, but I cannot put dummy data into the excel file so I'm wondering if there is any better ways to do it besides sorting the column desc to show at the top everytime.
