Hi, We have an F50 (AIX 4.3.2) server with 40 terminals and 12 printers attached to assorted (RAN) serial ports. I also have it connected to my (WinNT) network for ftp (of ascii files) and so have assigned an ip address. I have a printer on the same network that has its own printer controller. Can someone tell me what's involved to allow my AIX users to print to that printer (like the Windows users do)? The printer in question is a Toshiba eStudio-65 with an SC-2 controller (which is a digital copier/printer), just in case anyone has some experience with this type of setup. The admin guide for the controller came with some 'tar' files for HP-UX and Solaris, so I know they anticipated some UNIX usage! TIA - Will

I think you have a solution that is direct.
Just configure the printer as a network printer on the RS and it addresses its IP.
command - "smit mkvirprt" this will give you some menu you'll go through . Maybe you'll have to pick an IBM 4039 driver for the printer emulation on an HP laserjet III driver. I have never installed an HP-UX or Solaris tar file on AIX before.

I would echo as above, but you can either print as a remote printer, or use a hpjetdirect print connection (which I would certainly recommend). As its a laser printer, I would use the laserjet4 emulation as this tends to work on all laser printers.
