RS/6000 & Privileged-Access Password 2

Hello!
I just got a RS/6000 7044 270 with a SuSE 10 installed and
from my company a set of AIX5L 5.2 CDs.

Then I tried to install AIX but unfortunately it doesn't boot the cd automaticaly.
When the system beeps twice, I pressed 5 on the ASCII terminal.
But then it asked me for
Privileged-Access Password
which I don't have. And noone knows anymore what the password is.

I even removed the system battery with no success.

FYI:
I can boot & 'play' the SuSE linux.
And bevore I boot the OS, I see on the console:

When I didn't write anything but pushed 'Enter' I got the

----------------

From there I only can open the informative submenus or boot SuSE.
(Again...as soon as I pushed 1 or 5 after the word 'keyboard' & 2 beeps,
it asked for the privileged-access password )

My question is:
How can I reset the privileged-access password (PAP)?
Or is there any 'standard' password for this system?
Is there any way to install AIX whitout knowing the PAP ?

Pease consider this: I just started 2 weeks ago with
RS/6000 & AIX and I am LPI-1 certified.

I think you have to talk to IBM to reset it!!! IMHO it needs to be shiped somewhere to do that!

Either take out the battery for a longer time or try to enter 14900 in first or second menu, it should bring a hidden menu where you can erase nvram without having to open up the machine to take out the battery.

I'm not sure this hidden menu will work with a PA-password in force... Can't hurt to try.

The idea with '14900' didn't work.
I already removed the battery surely for longer than 30 sec.
But after that I got the same menu on the console:

What kind of password is that? It's not the power-on one, is it?
After I hit Enter (without entering any chars/password) I got

From here normaly I hit 1 on waited until 'keyboard' come.
As soon as that came & I hit 1 or 5 & I got

From this point I can't go any further. Because wether I
insert any char or not at all & hit Enter, the system says
"Invalid Password"
After 3 Enters, I couldn't insert anything anymore, because
"Max nr of tries was reached !! Computer is stopping."

And all of this was after I removed the battery > 30 sec.
Did I miss anything?

When there was AIX 5.2 in the cdrom, it run until the code
0c45 (console problem -> firmware problem, right?!)
So I downloaded some iso's from IBM to update system firmware.
But those cds won't start.

Is there a way to update firmware from within SuSE-box?
Or do I have to install AIX 4.3.3 first, than upgrade it
to AIX 5.2?
And again.. if the computer now is in 'default-configuration'
what kind of passwords does it ask for?

I believe it needs longer than 30s (like 5 mins or so). Also short-circuit the connector where the battery normally goes, after you take out the battery.

Meanwhile... I found on the SuSE box a linux tool called
update_flash.
Can I use this tool to update my system/service processor
firmware in its condition now (as it generaly said on man
page) ?

I'd also snoop around on the Suse to see if you also have something like a bootlist command (that is the name under AIX) to set the boot device to cdrom, so it will boot from your AIX CDs on next restart without you having to get to SMS menu...

Also try to erase nvram with battery removed and battery connector shorted for 5mins to get rid of PA-password though.

as I described it in one of my previous email, the system could boot AIX 5.2 but will stop at code 0c45 on LED panel.
And after I read your emails somewhere here in the forum, I tried to update the firmware. But then again failed, because of the PAP.
Nor would the system boot the 'diagnostic cd' (CD51025.iso):

So.. I'll remove the battery for a while tonight.
But if it is a safe way to do, can I update the firmware from suse box with the tool update_flash?

Pressing 5 on boot after the 2 beeps would get you to SMS menu (if you know the PA-password), so you would then choose which device to boot from.

Setting the bootlist to cd0 as first entry would simply reboot from CDrom without having to go through SMS menu, so you wouldn't need the PA-password in that case. Just a thought...

Hooray... I could get rid of the password and now I have
access to every menu.
I removed the battery for couple hours and _I think this is the most important thing_ I short-circuit the batterie's connector! (Thanks p5wizard!)
And yesterday I succesfully updated the system & service processor firmware via suse box, using the update_flash tool.

But still I can not install AIX 5.2. It hung on 0c45 (console problem?!).
After I read posts in this forum among others, it is a CDROM's microcode problem.
So I tried to update it. Unfortunately my linux box can't handle './genucode'.
According to others experiences, I need AIX 4.3.2/3 first to update it (which I don't have & mostly can't get it that easily).

Is that true, that using AIX 4.3.2/3 first is the only option to update the crdom's microcode?
Is there any way using linux or SMS to update it?
Or is there any chance to 'borrow' those AIX 4.3.2/3 CDs set through ftp?
