Is there a RPG II compiler for IBM-PC coputer?

Yes. It is called Baby/400. It is actually an RPG III compiler, plus a subset of OS/400 functions (which the IBM AS/400 uses). It's available from a company called California Software Products (I think).
I checked the price on Baby/400 a few months ago; if I remember correctly, it was about $1000! Does anyone know of another RPG compiler for PC, that is more affordable for those of us who aren't yet working in the field, but need something to learn on? For COBOL, they're all over the place--why not for RPG?
There are at least three RPG packages available, but all are about the same price range. The DOS versions may be a little cheaper only because they are no longer supported. I use Lattice RPG for DOS and have not upgraded to the windows version yet. I have looked at Native RPG for DOS, Baby/36 and Baby/400. The Baby products from California Software Products requires a royalty fee for each program sold as the other companies do not. I have also looked at Visual RPG from ASNA. All the various products are at least $1000 or more.
RPG (Report Program Generator) is looked upon by college and universities as a report utility and not as powerful programming language like COBOL. In the beginning, Big Brother and Big Guys uses COBOL the little guys uses RPG. The Big Guys have Very Big Bucks even though there are only less than a few hundred are more money than the few hundred thousand of us little guys.

Thank you! It looks like just what I need! I just ordered the CD.

I am currently looking to network with Chicago area RPG programmers. If you all are local to Chicago or know of any, please respond.

Catgrrl... I see your post from 7/30/99 about you ordering the Code/400 cd. Of course now they dont offer that. Is there anyway I could download that CD from you?
Im having a really hard problem trying to find a PC RPG compiler. Nothing fancy, just something I can practice with.

Or anyone else have any ideas where I can download a RPG compiler?

Thanks,

Hey Newbie,

I never got the CD...started working at a COBOL shop so I didn't need the RPG anymore. So I don't have a clue where to get an RPG compiler.

One thought I had is that you might be able to pick up an old AS400 cheap...which could have RPG already loaded on it...someone offered to give me one awhile back but he lived in Minnesota and I was in Oregon...and it was darned big and heavy.

Good luck.
