RPC stub error on NT4 installation

I have an n-tier client/server vb6 app.

The client tier consists of a standard exe referencing a number of activex dlls.

The 2nd and 3rd tier are activex exe's(for use with dcom).

The error occurs on my only NT4.0sp6 installation(the rest are win2k/xp which work fine). The message is "Automation error - Incompatible version of the RPC stub."

I have been running this application for 2 years as one big exe on the client tier, and just recently separated it out into a small exe with many dlls. This has been succesful for win2k/xp, but not on this single nt4sp6.

I can provide more detailed info if needed.

thanks

I think this error has to do with the version of Oleaut32.dll on the client. I was getting the same error trying to install a game I'd bought (Exile), and it was fixed when I replaced Oleaut32.dll version 3.5 with an older one (2.5 I think). You can probably test this theory by replacing it with one from a machine that works, but you'll have to make the switch in DOS mode cuz Windows keeps it in use. Obviously you'll wanna keep a copy of the existing file in case something goes awry.
