I am beginning to hate microsoft. I have still not had any luck with the RPC Server Unavailable message. IT also will not allow me to display any properties in the Services panel and reports the same error message. I can open up the printers folder in the control panel but the instant I click on ADD NEW PRINTER (I receive the "RPC SERVER UNAVAILABLE") error message. But only on the server itself. If I go to a workstation on the network, it allows me to launch and attempt to add a network printer but can't see any because I can't get them installed on the server. I have tried recommedations of the past day or so but so far none have worked. Anyone else that can help or has a thought let me know. Thanks, Keith

when you click on services does it imidiatly display rpc server unavailable? if not click on the rpc server (single click) and click on the start button. hope fully you will be able to then get the properties on the rpc server and change it back to automatic. if that dosnt work. get the exact service name the type at the command prompt

net start rpc server

hopefully one of those 2 will start the server so you can go about your buisness to fix it perminatly. hope that helps Karl Pietri

I have run into this before on our servers. Check to make sure that there are no other programs running (**Anti-Virus***) that are sucking up all the server's memory. That kept happening to us, and when we monitored the resources of each running program, we found that was the problem...

Good Luck......

If you are trying to add a printer and you get the message
Operation could not be completed. The RPC server is unavailable.

the cause can be a missing or corrupted spoolss.dll or spoolss.exe. Make sure the RPC service is started. If the error is consistent and it continues through a reboot, re-apply the service pack.

I had this issue and I was able to fix by starting the spool service. Once I started the spool service everything was fine.

hi there,
for one of my workstation can not add network printer, I found the file spoolss.dll and spoolss.exe missing, and after I copy this files to System32 folder the spooler service can start, and I can list the shared printers.
But when I start to install any shared printer it told me the driver of that printer reside on server is not suitable for use and prompt to install.
The bad thing is after install the driver it told me the printer server can not find.

Can anybody help me about this issue?

Any answer will be highly appriated

afan,

On the printer you just installed the drivers locally, go in to the printer properties, and find the port that is setup for that printer, point it at the network printer and you should be good to go.

hello all,
I am sorry to tell you I can not install printer,'cause it told me the printer processor do not work. by the way the RPC and spooler works now.
