rpc problem

I get an error when trying to connect to the internet via dial up then the machine reboots.

the error is
The remote procedure call RPC services terminated unexpectedly.


can anyone shed any light
I have been told to reinstal, but I want to see if there is a less drastic way to do it first.

This is the "msblast" or "blaster" or variant worm.

There are several removal tools listed, including advice about getting the patch from Microsoft, and stopping your machine from rebooting so that you can download and apply the fixes needed.

Thanks for the info.

I have run stinger on the machine, and found the blaster virus. now removed.

I guess i need to run the patch also.
