Hi All

I am trying to understand and overcome why rpc.mountd is not working.

My system is AIX 4.3.3, and

# lssrc -g nfs
Subsystem Group PID Status
biod nfs 9034 active
nfsd nfs 8602 active
rpc.statd nfs 9370 active
rpc.lockd nfs 9600 active
rpc.mountd nfs inoperative

Looking at errpt I am getting the following :

SYMPTOM CODE
0
SOFTWARE ERROR CODE
-9015
ERROR CODE
4
DETECTING MODULE
'srchevn.c'@line:'268'
FAILING MODULE
rpc.mountd

I was wondering if anyone knows how to overcome this problem ?

Any help much appreciated.

Aslam

Does the daemon stop immediately after starting or after some time?
Is your root filesystem full? Maybe something bad in your /etc/exports file causing the daemon to poop out?

Hi

The deameon stops immediately, after starting.

My root system has about 300Mb free at the moment.

I have recreated the /etc/exports file, but I still get the problem.

HI,

Please post the output of:

1.df
2.entstat -drt ent0 |grep –i error
(assumint ent0 is your default interface)
3.cat /etc/hosts
4.errpt |head -20

Also,I would try removing and redefining the entx interface.

Thanks,

1.try redefining your entx (rmdev,cfgmgr,etc)
2.Please post the screen output of the following:

stopsrc -g ngs
startsrc -g ngs

Thanks

Hi

I will try and redefine the network card.

The data as requested :

# stopsrc -g ngs
0513-086 The ngs Group is not on file.

# stopsrc -g nfs
0513-044 The biod Subsystem was requested to stop.
0513-044 The nfsd Subsystem was requested to stop.
0513-044 The rpc.statd Subsystem was requested to stop.
0513-044 The rpc.lockd Subsystem was requested to stop.

# startsrc -g nfs
0513-059 The biod Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 9372.
0513-059 The nfsd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 9602.
0513-059 The rpc.statd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 11952.
0513-059 The rpc.lockd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 9036.
0513-059 The rpc.mountd Subsystem has been started. Subsystem PID is 20680.

# lssrc -g nfs

biod nfs 9372 active
nfsd nfs 9602 active
rpc.statd nfs 11952 active
rpc.lockd nfs 9036 active
rpc.mountd nfs inoperative

Sometimes when the NFS daemons are having trouble then you can get clues to what the problem is by trying to start them (as root) from the command-line:
# /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd
Try this. It may spit out an error message as to why it refuses to stay alive.

Hi tried it bt dotn understand what I need to do

# /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd
exec(): 0509-036 Cannot load program /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd because of the followi
ng errors:
0509-130 Symbol resolution failed for rpc.mountd because:
0509-136 Symbol __which_res_state (number 66) is not exported from
dependent module /usr/lib/libc.a(shr.o).
0509-192 Examine .loader section symbols with the
'dump -Tv' command.

Yup

# lppchk -v
lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to bring
the system to a consistent state:

bos.adt.prof 4.3.3.10 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.mp 4.3.3.10 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.mp 4.3.3.13 (not installed; requisite fileset)
bos.mp 4.3.3.12 (not installed; requisite fileset)
devices.scsi.ses.diag 4.3.3.10 (not installed; requisite fileset)
devices.ssa.disk.rte 4.3.3.10 (not installed; requisite fileset)

I would first fix the inconsistensies on the bos.mp fileset to see if it solves the problem.
