I am running Wind Srv 2003 with NW 7.2.1

I have a scheduled cmd line job to backup files to Disk.

save -I "D:\PST Backup\pst.nsr" -b PST -g PST -y month -w month

however when I come to recover from the GUI or the recover command i get this message:

The files are being backed up to a adv_file device which is located on the Storage node where the backup runs from.
On the backup server the devices is rd=server1.dom.com:\\server1\pst1

server1 is a storage node
the files being backed up are on a seperate drive on server1

I hae found that if I clone the adv_file device to Tape I can then recover the files from tape; however I would like to find out why I cant recover directly from the device.

Can anyone help ??

The issue is that you do not state exactly your procedure.

I assume that you want to start a directed recovery and your rights are wrong.
- Look at the Remote Access rights
- Make sure that the servers file is correct on all nodes

If you clone to another node and start the recovery from here, it may just work because the scenario is different here.

605 thanks fo your response.

I do not have an issue restoring anything to this client/Storage node except for tha manual backup job as shown above.

When I clone it is to the same storage node the only difference being is it is cloned from adv_file to Tape.

I can backup the files ok.
I currently do not have anything in the Remote acces rights; but would i need them as it backs up okay ?

Look at the nsr_client manpage - remote access is mainly a recovery attribute.
