Hi Guys, I am currently trying to install Solaris 8 from a boot server but my client hangs upon boot up. I figured is that the problem is with my boot server. I checked the rpc.bootparamd process and it is not running. When I try to manually start it up, it does not have any error but when I check through ps -ef, it does not show there. I also tried to run it with -d option but it gives me an error "unable to create (BOOTPARAMPROG, BOOTPARAMVERS) for netpath. ". How would I be able to resolve this issue. Thanks in advance.

I don't have any clients but I can run rpc.bootparamd on Solaris8 & 9 from almost anywhere
maybe have a look at :-

"man nsswitch.conf"
"man rpc.bootparamd"
"man bootparams"

all I can suggest

root 119 1 0 Apr 18 ? 0:00 /usr/sbin/rpcbind
is OK
but in.rarpd is not running

On your BIS you can run rarpd -d <interface> or run snoop to find where you are having problems.

yes, in.rarpd is running fine on the server but rpcbind is not running.

can you run "rpcinfo" or "rpcinfo -p"
or tried warm start "rpcbind -w" ( man rpcbind)

I finally got it. I have started /etc/init.d/rpc start service and tried /usr/sbin/rpc.bootparamd. all worked out fine now. thank you all for the feedback. :)
