Routing Fax from Fax Server through 2nd PRI Card 4

I have tried several configurations and can not find one that will allow for digits to be sent from a Diva Fax Server PRI/T1 card through a 2nd PRI/T1 card on IPO out through 1st PRI/T1 card on IPO.

I have setup Incoming routes for each users four digit DID numbers, routing all faxes to the Diva Fax Server via the PRI cards. This is working fine. However, I can not successfully send faxes from the Diva Card. I have tried all shortcodes possible.

The last thing I did was to setup an incoming route for the 2nd PRi/T1 card which is connected to the Diva Fax.

Does any one have a any ideas. Thank you.

search this thread, this topic has come up several times in the last couple of weeks. There is a wealth of information to be found in the existing posts.

it is ega that made the previous posts Peter
we have resolved his inbound calls to the fax server, it is outbound calls thatare giving the problem now
(he cant strip the leading 9 )

Oh? Oops :)

What have you tried already ega? What do call status and monitor show when you attempt to callout from the faxserver?

I can try some configs here in my lab and see if I can get this to go.

Peter

Thank you Morrack,

The question is what haven't I tried.

These are the changes I have attempted:

Trunk 5 is my regular PRI Card
Trunk 1 is my 2nd PRI card which is connected to the Diva Fax Server card.

As IPGuru mentioned, I have been able to make the connection and allow for faxes to be sent directly to the Fax Card, by created individual incoming Call Routes and routing all calls directly to the Fax Sever via a short code.

However, when I attempt to do the reverse, I am getting errors.

Here is what I have attempted:

1. Setup an Incoming Call Route for trunk 1 and leaving the telephone number blank. Then entering a shortcode on the destination field:

Shtcode: FAX_out
Tel Number: .
Line Grp ID: 5
Feature: Dial3K1

This did not work.

2. I then attempted to add the word INVERT on the testnumber field of the advanced tab for trunk 1, as a user on this forum suggested. This did not do anything

3. I also created a dummy user and entered this user on the destination field of the Trunk 1 Incoming Call Route doc. Then I created a shortcode on the dummy user forwarding all calls throug Trunk 5 via the PRI. That did not work either.

4. When I change the Destination on the Trunk 1 Incoming Call Route to an existing Analog fax line, it will forward all fax calls successfully to this fax line. But when I return the shortcode I mentioned above, I get errors. It asks for Mandatory information on the Fax Server End. Below is a snipit of what I see in the IPO monitor. I can only assume that I am not creating the short code correctly to allow for the call to be passed from one trunk to another.

Sorry for the long post )

By the way on change number 4 which I list in the above post, when I mention a an anolog line I mean a anolog port in IPO. I entered an alog fax user in the destination portion.

The missing mandatory information element would be a called party number - I see a callingparty number info element in your ISDN layer3 message, but not a called number... strange. Also as IPGuru pointed out it's trying to pass through the 9. Is 3056209520 a local number for you?

I'm curious about this shortode you mentioned:

Shtcode: FAX_out
Tel Number: .
Line Grp ID: 5
Feature: Dial3K1

Is that literally how you have it entered, or are you trying not to bore us with the details of the specific shortcode number you have selected?

I'm going to try and setup a test system here in my lab as mentioned, but right off the top I would try the following for your incoming call route:

Line Group ID: 1
Incoming Number: 9N;
Destination: 9N (this SHOULD get passed to the shorcodes which will process the 9 as secondary dialtone)

This is assuming you are sending a 9 from the faxserver on a dialout.

I'll follow up once I've experimented some.

Peter

To answer your questions.

I use 9 to get a outside dial tone.

3056145810 is local. The first three digits are the areacode and are required to place the call.

Yes the shortcode I listed is exactly the way I entered it. Still getting the jist of short codes )
I went back to Help Docs and got up to speeed on Short Codes.

I tried the short code you reccomended. However this did not work. I removed the 9N; from the incoming number so it would accept anything and I receive the following on the monitor regarding this call:

Ok, solved it here in my lab. Disclaimer: I don't have a DIVA card so used a Magix with DS1 board and setup a point to point PRI between the Magix and a 403 to simulate. However, it should be the same deal. From the Magix I can now dial out through the 403 via the back to back PRI.

The secret is all in the incoming call route. Here is what you want:

LineGroup: 1
Incoming Number: -N
Destination: 9#

And that's it. The - in front of the N (that N is undocumented by the way, at first I used 10 X's and thought oh boy world class routing course here I come) is essential as it tells the IPO to match the incoming digits for this entry left to right, instead of the default right to left. The # after the 9 in the destination field is the "incoming call routes version" of putting an N there like you would in a shortcode - it simply appends the phone number you dialed from the Diva/Magix. This string (9+number) will now get processed through the system shortcode list. The 9 will trigger secondarydialtone and the rest of the number goes out as normal per your setup.

I think I deserve a star for this one, non? ;-)

Peter

Oh, this solution assumes you are NOT dialing a 9 from the faxserver. Just dial the number with no prefix, the IPO will deal with that.

Hello Morrack,

I made the changes you recommended. It looks like I am almost there. I received a much different error from the FAx Server this time. It was actually in a process state, but I still received an error: Invalid Number Format, Call failed.

I will keep playing around with it to see why it does not see the number as valid.

Also, on the call status I was able to see for less than a second that when the call is attempted:

Line 5 > Line 1

also, here is the monitor log. It shows that the number dialed is resubmitged with a 9 in the begining. So that worked ok. However, there is something when it is transfered from Line 1 to Line 5:

ega can you post a little more of the monitor log? Everything here is exactly as I would expect it to be, and shows the call proceeding perfectly. You ended the log just as the call was being submitted to the PSTN over your line 5 PRI, submitted in correct format. I would like to see the PSTN's response.

Interesting. It is definately a case of the PSTN rejecting the call - the PSTN comes back with invalid number format, the IPO then passes that error message back to the fax server where you are seeing it diplayed. Kinda cool in a techie kinda way... :)

Everything in the called number looks normal to me... the only thing I can think of right now is the calling party number is showing up as 5762. This might be what is causing the call to be rejected.

Just for hoots, try temporarilly changing your normal dialout shortcode for local calls to always send the main number (10 digits) as callerID and see if that helps. If so I'll help you reconfigure so outbound fax calls send your fax number correctly and all should be good.

Peter

ega if the above post does not help, get a monitor trace of a call being made from a digital set on the IPO to the same fax number in the above traces (3056280965), and confirm the call went through (ie you heard the fax tone at the far end).

I'll be out of town most of today but keen to see this working for you.

Peter

Hi Morrack,

Sorry about that. I was pulled away from this project temporarily and now we have a hurricane upon us AGAIN!!!

We are on a Hurricane watch, which means all systems are shut down until Monday or Tuesday. That makes sense to compare a good call with that coming from the FAx Server. I will attempt to do this at the begining of next week.

I spoke to the Diva Fax Server vendor and showed him the log as well from their end and they seem to think it is the Telco which is returning the call. When I speak to the Telco, they say it is the Diva Vendor who needs to find out why it is an invalid number error. By the way I attempted this test by connecting the Diva Server Card direclty to the PRI and I get the same error. Hence, the Telco guys may be right.

I have worked on this for over two weeks now, almost to an obssesion. I have given in and will be switching my T1 to an integrated T1 and borrow four channels to conntect directly to the Diva Fax Card.

However, just like you and very interested as to why this did not work. If you are still interested I will post the logs next week.

Thanks again for all your hard work. I beleive you did find a solution via IPO, there is something funky with the Diva Fax Sever Card.

Elvis )

You got a star from me for that bit about the incomming call routes.

Hope everything is OK for you after that hurricane.

I am still interested - please do post your logs and results.

Peter

Well I survived yet another hurricane. Lost power for a few days, but compared to what happened down here I'm actually the lucky one. It's been a sad year for many. Hope this is the end of hurricanes for this year.

Well, as promised, Morrack, here is the log for a call coming out of a digital phone from the IPO to the same number (3056280965). I waited until the fax tone appeared for a few seconds before hanging up the phone.

As I told you before, I opted to take 4 channels from my integrated T1 and connected it directly to the Diva Sever Fax Card and it worked OK. However, I'm still puzzled as to why it would not work via a PRI connection through the IPO and direct. If you find any thing let me know.
