Is it possible in the Domino topology to route **all** Internal emails via an external SMTP complient application (Which can scan for unauthorised content swearing confidential exe files etc etc) can already do it with outbound mail but customer now wants to include internal email

Hope I have made this clear if not let me know and I will try again :)

thanks
George

Hi,

No need to let the e-mails go outside using SMTP. That would be a waste of resources.
Just use one of the many add-ons for Domino that will scan both internal and external e-mails.

I always use TrendMicro ( MailScan for Domino, but other solutions also exist.

These solutions also offer you a lot of other possibilities such as filtering and blocking based on attachments, message size, etc.

Thanks Dominik ,
But I am not scanning for virii more scanning for innapropriate content (i.e GIFs/Mpegs Etc and innapropriate word i.e swearing etc etc the product that they are currently using does not have access directly to the Domino environmnent but can accept and send smtp messages.
I can see that domino has smart host for all non matches in the NAB, And I was wondering if it could be set up so that all emails go to the smarthost (Except if they have just come from the smarthost , in that case they need to be delivered to the appropriate person)

This is a single domino server site...

Hi,

Same answer: look at TrendMicro or others.
You can do all the things you mention.

I block most non-business attachments such as pictures, video's, mp3, etc. You can do this either using the MIME type or using the extension.

You can look at the contents and enter whatever you find is not appropriate.

So the most simple way to go is just to add a Domino mailscanner on your Domino server. No need to re-route anything. That way you also simplify the management because you can work with 1 set or rules that work for all e-mails regardless of the fact if they are internal or external.

Contact me by e-mail if you need more help because I will no longer be joining Tek-Tips forums in the future.
