I just purchased a used router that has IOS ver 12.0.

The book I am studying says that it will use 12.3. I do not have a cco login. does anyone know where I can the IOS besides Cisco site?

Thank you,

CB

No where that I know of. The ability to upgrade your IOS by downloading the image from cisco.com comes with either two things:

1. The limited warranty that comes with the purchase of a brand new Cisco router

or

2. The continued purchase of a support contract through Cisco that will allow you access to the CCO Cisco online technical area.

BTW, Cisco is one of those corps that _will_ go after you if they detect a pirated system... word to the wise...

Thanks JTB,

This router will not go into production, I just bought it to get my CCNA. But I suppose either way it is bad. Can you purchase the IOS? Anyway, I think I can still use 12.0.2.

In the same boat here... I'm trying to work out a deal with a company that sells refurbished network and server equipment to put together Cisco packages they'll lease us for, say 6 months, to cut down the cost...

They can build the routers as we need them with the right IOS and memory and flash. Legally...

No word yet on pricing but after I get the word, I'll post it on this board if there are no objections...

Just curious, how exactly would cisco detect a pirated system? Do they come round your house and look for skulls and crossbones?

jtb please do post it. if it's legal, id be very interested.

I've seen higher and lower prices on eBay; but these guys have a "real business" (i.e., not just auctions) and will treat us like "real customers"...

From a couple of emails:

1. Lease: We could lease you the 3 2501's and a 1924 switch for 150$ a month.

2. Buy: We could [sell] you the routers for 225$ each and a 1924-EN-NT for 50$. The switch has a generic cover on top but the actual equipment is Cisco.

My 2 cents on the whole thing is this. Make sure what ever it is you buy can handle the ios you are planning to put on it. The generic cover on cisco equipment is common but indicates older equipment. when cisco was buying up the competition at a fast clip the only way to tell if it was cisco was the sticky label that said cisco right over the old manufactorers name plate. IMO, $225 for a 2501 is robbery. The break even point for 3 2501's and a 1924 for $150/mo rent is 3 to 4 months. Me being the lazy person I would end up owing a $1000 before I could/would mail them back. Also, a 1924 for a the CCNA is great, but for the CCNP it will not suffice. be patient and watch ebay. hell, I be selling off some of my stuff and...oh yeah lazy well if interested and you want it for christmas I'm sure I could do a deal. I actually got my mailed christmas gifts out last week, early for me. Previous christmas went out over the summer...

is the company URL.

I'm not related not do I get discounts or kickbacks. Feel free not to mention my name (heehee)

I exchanged emails with john.weiberg@WDPI.com; but I'm sure it's the normal pricing...

Thanks Dave for your permission (and for Tek-Tips!!!!!!!)
