I have a router which someone else configured.
It is expected to pull the configuration from the tftp server.

But it seems that it is not.

The confreg is 0x282, which quite frankly, I can't seem to figure out what this means.

gives an explanation but there is no entry for the hundreds place "2" in 0x282

I have looked for a more detailed guide but so far have come up empty.

My questions are this:

1. What controls, which configuration file(start-up config, tftp, etc) gets loaded at boot up?(I thought it was confreg)

2. When using tftp, how does it know what server to contact(I thought it just sent out a broadcast)?

3. With tftp, what filename does it use and where it this configured?

Answer or link, either would be great.

Thanks,

Bill

Hello,
I could be wrong, but I think you are loking in the wrong direction. The the confreg thing is normally use for password recovery, never really seen it use for anything else.
The router will boot from nvram if the confreg is set to the default 0x2102.You would set the confreg to ignore nvram (where the startup conf is stored)with 0x2142 for password recovery.
The "service config" maybe is what you are looking for.Below is the link.
