i use a intuos wacom tablet for drawing in photoshop but when i am drawing something at an angle where i need to flip the page around i get stuck, how can i rotate the canvas in photoshop cs3?

...try selecting image > rotate canvas...

Andrew

thanks for the reply apepp i should have been more clear im trying to achieve this rotation effect freely, here is a youtube video of what i mean. you see when he cant make a line correctly he changes the angle of his canvas freely to help him. Thanks again

Video:

In the video, when the canvas is turned the cursor has changed to a double-headed arrow connected by a curved line - I guess this means he's hit CTRL-T to 'transform' the layer (may have to select the whole layer first?)

...the program used on this video is not photoshop, it is Manga studio, created especially for comic artist and manga artists...

Andrew

Ah - wasn't looking too hard at the software, assumed it was PS cos Topic was asking about PS ... CTRL-T still works tho... :)

if your looking for something like Corel Painter can do, photoshop cant do it.

Hi

There is a way to do what you want, in Photoshop.

First make you canvase large enough to except the image when it is rotated.

In other words create a large canvase with you image centered in it. other wise part of you image will run off the edge when you rotate it.

Image/Cavase Size.

Once you have done that select your image with the rectangle selection tool.

Now go to Edit/Free Transform.

You will now be able to rotate the image just by draging a corner with your mouse.
You will see the two headed arrow just as you described.

It isnt recommended to use free transform tools often unless its a smart object or rotated 45/90 degrees. Every rotation/free transform results in loss of quality.

You can use the measurement tool to drag along the angle of the line, then choose rotate arbitrary - it will automatically use the angle of the measurement tool.

dmacster - This is the *best* tip for someone like me who scans a lot of old and badly photocopied text. Thanks!
In PS7 I found the measure tool by right clicking in the same little toolbox as the (default) Eyedropper tool.
