I have been told recently that it is possible on the Norstar Systems to take a line from the rotary and use it like a direct number without affecting the rotary. My past learning was that this was not possible but if anyone knows how to do this please respond.

AS LONG AS TELCO GIVES YOU INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS FOR EACH LINE AND YOU CAN DIAL THAT NUMBER AND ANSWER,IT WILL WORK.

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

Thank you for your reply PERRYYP. Yes I know that would work. Here is an example: I have a four line rotary. I have three phones and each phone has one of the four lines assigned to it(ring and appear). Problem is when I have one of the rotary numbers assigned to my phone I will not always know if that is a call for me or someone else because of the rotary set up. Do you understand what I am getting at. I have been told by an ex Telus(Telco-Canada)Engineer that it is possible to do this if you think outside of the norm. However he would not tell me how it is done. I have been taught that this is not done and is not a normal practise but I have had customers that insist on using their rotary numbers like direct numbers and then hate their phone system because it is giving them problems.
Any thoughts?

This sounds like a lot of grap. But If you have all the lines appear on a phone only. Then the one number you want to ring to a phone ring on it. when that line rings the phone, the person at this phone can look down and see if the other line are busy. If no other line is busy then it would be a call to that line only.
I have been a phone man for 23 years. If you figure some thing out other then this. Please share. I think thet guy was pulling your leg. Good luck.

Sincerely, thephoneboy

Thanks everyone if I ever find out how he has done it I will fill you all in.

You have three phones and four lines. Each phone has one line. What happens to the fourth line if it rings. I worked for that same company for a long time and I havnt heard of this

If you are in Canada you can get telco to make these lines local link with either call waiting or telco v mail on them without equiv (rotary). Then each phone has a dedicated line and has the ability to answer a second call, or have it go to v mail.

What exactly is this? a party line or just 4 lines in an equiv group with out Touchtone?
